Buddha's BreathLearn the Buddha’s Instructions for Meditation
Just a reminder that it's not too late to register for the "Buddha's Breath" retreat this upcoming weekend. This program will offer participants an opportunity to practice HH Drikung Kyabgön Chetsang Rinpoche’s “Shravasti Meditation” system which skillfully weaves together the historical Buddha’s main method of practice as found in the Anapanasati Sutta together with Mahāmudrā and Zen approaches to training the mind and a set of practical yogic exercises. Although there is a Zoom option to participate from afar, it is highly recommended that you try to attend in person to experience this profound approach is a fully embodied way. In-person participation is limited to 30 persons. Zen Flute MeditationPlease join us on the evening of October 23rd for a special performance and meditation guided by Shakuhachi (Zen Flute) practitioner Travis Roman. The Shakuhachi has direct connection to the Meditation and Zen practice, at one point in history enjoying a dedicated school of Zen Mindfulness practice. Travis is offering a Mindfulness Session of Suizen (blowing meditation); the session includes a brief discussion regarding the history of the Shakuhachi and breath work techniques. The Shakuhachi, when applied with proper intention, is a pure mindfulness tool that takes the listener on a contemplative journey of enlightenment. Unlike other sound healing/baths that involve numerous combinations of sounds and instruments, this experience focuses on simplicity and minimalism at the center the mind. All are welcome to attend! Remembering and RenewingDon't forget to mark your calendars for the upcoming "Remembering & Renewing" program Saturday 11/1 6:00-9:00 PM. Come to enjoy sweet & savory treats, bring a photo of a deceased loved one for the alter, and enjoy the evening of festivities & renewal. We will have live music, various vendors from our community, and a silent auction with many marvelous items! Come ready to bid, and you might win:
Share Your ThanksOn Friday, November 28th, 2025 from 6:00-9:00 PM, bring your leftover Thanksgiving dish to share, or just bring yourself, to the temple for our Fall Potluck and Movie Night! We'll be screening The Last Dance, a film about a debt-ridden wedding planner who inadvertently becomes a successful funeral planner. However, he must convince a traditional Taoist priest of his legitimacy to continue operating in the field. Afterward, Dr. Lye will give brief reflections of this movie and answer questions, as this film is representative of his cultural background before he came to the US. Open to all. We hope to see you there! No Smoke Cleansing Sunday 10/26Please note that there will be no Sunday Smoke Cleansing this weekend due to the time slot being occupied by the Buddha's Breath retreat. Regular programming will resume the following week. |
