Words for the Year of the Snake

February 28th marked the beginning of the Female Wood Snake Year in the Tibetan calendar. Our spiritual director Dr. Hun Lye shared some words about the significance of this day in the Tibetan Buddhist context, and encouraged the following:

...Trust in each other, trust in basic goodness have eroded so much that even teachers who are supposed to inspire bodhicitta and divine pride in all of us are sowing more seeds of confusion and divisions, wedging Mount Merus into splinters, further reinforcing the delusion of “self vs other,” “us vs them.” But all of this is interdependently-arising. What has been mistakenly caused and conditioned can be dispelled! And it has to begin with each of us. There is no other place for this pivotal work to take place. We start now, today.
Thus, may virtue and merit abound at this start of the Year of the Snake, blessing you with good health, happy heart and swift awakening!

-Dr. Hun Lye

Freedom From Fears

We had a great turnout this past weekend for our “Freedom From Fears: Principals & Practices of Lady Tāra” retreat. Deep thanks to Dorlöp Rinpoché Dr. Lye for his teaching and ritual bestowal in this program, which resonated deeply for many of us.

The photos below cover both of the two days. Saturday included teachings regarding this history and stories of Tāra, as well as teachings on gaining freedom through knowing wisdom. On Sunday the ritual empowerment of Lady Tāra was performed.

Thank you to the people who came in person, and those majority who joined via Zoom—we had over 50 in person, while more than 100 people joined online.

Dorlöp Rinpoché departed on Monday for India to receive further special transmissions from His Holiness Drikung Kyabgon. Rinpoché will be in Asheville again in May for Buddha Day—stay tuned!
