“The Foundational Teachings are Truly Profound”A New Series on the Buddha’s Teachings on Karma Starting the first Thursday of 2025 (January 2), Dr. Lye will be offering an extended program on karma (literally “action”) during the usual Open Sangha time-slot, 7:30–9 pm, New York Time. While karma is generally understood as the principle of “what goes around, comes around” or “you reap what you sow,” or an Eastern version of an universal law of rewards and punishments, in this series Dr. Lye will illuminate the Buddha’s profound teachings on karma. In particular, Dr. Lye will anchor this series on the earliest layer of Buddhist texts as well as insights on karma as found in the collected teachings of the 12th century Tibetan master, Kyobpa Jikten Sumgön. To help ground the weekly classes (that will include guided meditation and discussion), Dr. Lye has chosen the book “Kamma and the End of Kamma” by contemporary monk and teacher Ajahn Sucitto that can be downloaded for free at: https://media.amaravati.org/en/dhamma-books/kamma-and-the-end-of-kamma-2nd-ed We meet at Urban Dharma NC at 697 Haywood Rd, Suite C, Asheville, NC 28806. Donations are accepted gratefully so that we can continue to keep our doors open and programs free. At Urban Dharma NC we believe that the Buddha’s teachings are truly priceless and we adhere to the tradition of not selling the Dharma. Everyone at Urban Dharma is a volunteer, including our teacher and founder Dr. Lye. Please ask us how you can join our ranks of volunteers—we need YOU! 7:30-9:00 PM, New York Time |

"This storm is you." From our Spiritual Director Dr. Lye's Facebook Page “Sometimes fate is like a small sandstorm that keeps changing directions. You change direction but the sandstorm chases you. You turn again, but the storm adjusts. Over and over you play this out, like some ominous dance with death just before dawn. Why? Because this storm isn't something that blew in from far away, something that has nothing to do with you. This storm is you. Something inside of you. So all you can do...
